It’s here it’s here!! Of course I’m talking about strawberry season. It’s sort of like the inaugural fruit season around here and brings all sorts of deliciousness with it. Whether you are just eating them fresh, grabbing them from the store or loading up on flats at the fruit stand- strawberries are a delight. And one of my most favorite ways to use strawberries (besides eating them, milkshakes, strawberry pie, etc. etc.) is STRAWBERRY JAM!!
There is nothing like being in the middle of winter and having the fresh taste of strawberry jam to remind you of summer days long gone. There’s also nothing like slathering a thick layer of strawberry jam on toast each morning. Also also- you want a great gift to give someone? How about a nice jar of jam? That’s something everyone would welcome AND use!
There are many recipes and ways to make delicious jam or jelly. In simple terms, jam is seeded and jelly is seedless. Both ways can be cooked and canned to store easily on your shelf. But in my humble opinion, the freshest flavor comes from freezer jam! It’s also the easiest and quickest way to make it. So if you have freezer space- get ready! If you don’t have freezer space- run out and buy an extra used freezer so you can start filling it for winter.
Lastly- this recipe is not original to me. It actually comes from the Ball Pectin container (so thankful they make it easy). Sometimes they switch up their recipe a bit year to year and packaging might change so I’ve put it below for your reference. Just make sure when you buy your pectin, that you buy pectin for freezer jam! It needs to say that on the label.
Otherwise- Happy Jamming! Let me know in the comments what you think and your favorite way to use strawberries! I always love getting fresh ideas.
xo, Sarah
Strawberry Freezer Jam (recipe by Ball)
Ingredients
- 3 1/3 cups Strawberries (mashed)
- 1 1/3 cups Granulated sugar
- 4 tbsp Ball RealFruit Instant Pectin for freezer jam
Instructions
- Wash and hull strawberries.
- Mash to desired consistency (I use a food processor for this).
- Combine sugar and pectin in a bowl.
- Slowly pour sugar/pectin mixture into strawberry puree while constantly whisking. Continue to whisk for 3-5 minutes.
- Pour into pint size jars. Let sit on countertop for 30 minutes for jam to set. Clean off top of jar with a damp paper towel. Cover with a clean/sterilized lid and canning ring (no need for sealing with freezer jam).
- Store in the freezer until ready to eat, then transfer to the refrigerator.

Yes, this jam is simple—but even the “simple” can seem daunting to the inexperienced (or unmotivated) cook. I believe it was last year that you shared this simple process on IG, and I finally just tried it at that time. I love it!
You are right, there is something quintessentially delicious about summer strawberries and jam. Thank you for sharing the simple steps. And your photography featured here is beautiful (as usual) <3
Sarah
Yvonne JuergensI totally agree with you Yvonne! Sometimes I see something “simple” I want to try (crafting can be that for me) and it still can overwhelm me to get started! I’m so glad you tried it and love it though!

Curious: you mentioned the recipe reflected a double batch but it also says 2½ pints yield. Can you please clarify for this blondie? Thanks!

My mother always made a freezer strawberry jam and it was delicious, we had a pick your own field right down the street.
The jars don’t break in the freezer, I remember my mother put the jam in the waxed freezer boxes, almost like the Asian take out boxes but different shape.
Thanks for the recipe
Sarah
Pat SchossowSuch a fun memory!

My kids and I made this recipe last year and again today. I love that it uses so much less sugar than most other recipes. Delish! Thank you!
