I am here to deliver on my promise of sharing my mom’s famous hot cocoa recipe. Call it hot chocolate or call it hot cocoa, either way it is delicious. 4 ingredients, mix together, and store all winter long. It is a milk powder base so you will add a lot more mix to your mug than you think. 1/3-1/2 cup of mix in each mug. Add hot water, and there ya go! You can also mix in a little milk to cool it down or make it even creamier. But please don’t forget the toppings. Marshmallows, whip cream, chocolate drizzle, sprinkles, toffee bits, the options are endless.
I think it would be fun to make a hot cocoa bar so when friends come over you can treat them to a fun drink. Use little clear jars or containers to hold all your toppings, a cute container for the hot cocoa mix, and add in all your christmas mugs.
It would make a great stocking stuffer like my mom did for the boys. Get a personalized mug, an airtight container of the mix, and a little bag of marshmallows. Such a great gift for kids or kids at heart!
xo, Sarah

Yay!! This would make the cutest gift in a pretty, decorated jar, with a Christmas mug, some chocolate covered marshmallows & some of the other toppings you suggested. You could also include a cookie recipe & some cookie cutters or some homemade Christmas cookies on a Christmas plate! I love this as a gift for someone you don’t know well or a perfect edition to a stocking! I’m going to mix up one of those really big mason jars for our house & gift it as gifts for my medical team in different combinations! Thanks for being so kind & sharing Nana’s famous recipe!!
Sarah
Lori LawsonThose ideas are so great Lori! If you do it, I’d love to see a picture of you what you did! Post it here if you do, that would be so fun!

Hello! Sounds delish. I love this idea. What is powered creamer and powdered sugar? Sorry maybe we call it something different in South Africa.
We do have Nesquick tho! Xxx
Sarah
Nikki KnottPowdered creamer you can find in the coffee aisle typically at the grocery store. It looks like the same type of container liquid creamer would come in!

Can’t wait to try this. But what do you mean by “Dry Mix?” Is that powdered cocoa?
Sarah
RebeccaYes, everything is powdered, you can usually find it in the bulk section! Or in the cereal aisle!
sameera
can you mix this with hot milk.cant wait to try this, looks amazing!
Sarah
sameeraThis recipe has powdered milk in it, so you don’t need any additional milk.
Donna Urciuoli Laird
Can you use milk instead of water??
Thank you
Happy Holidays!!!
Sarah
Donna Urciuoli LairdThe base is made of milk so that’s why you use water, but I’m sure you could try for sure, I don’t see why that would be bad, I just haven’t done it!
Kasey
I made this and, oh my goodness, it is the best! I actually think I may try using a flavored coffee creamer next time, like French vanilla. Thank you for sharing this amazing recipe!
