Saturday breakfast done right. Well, any day really but Saturday is our family tradition. You may wonder what a Dutch baby is. Some also call it a German pancake. So is it Dutch? Is it German? And is it even a pancake? Honestly I don’t really know. I just know it’s delicious. So call it what you want but make sure you make it once a week and your family will thank you.
I love that this recipe is all mixed up in a blender and poured right into the pan to cook. Easy peasy. You can mix by hand but the blender really makes it fluffy. 20 minutes later and everyone is happy plus your kids love seeing it come out of the oven all puffed up. FYI- if it sinks back in that’s normal!
In my personal opinion it’s best when you add in some sort of fruit. Our faves are any berry, apples or peaches. Fresh or frozen both work great. Finish off with some lemon juice and a sprinkle of powdered sugar and you are good to go.
TIP** We always make a triple batch for our family of 7 and cook it in a 13×9 glass pan.
TIP2**We also love to add fruit in the mixture too! Berries, apples, pears, peaches, and bananas all add a great flavor. Add into the mixture once poured in the pan before you place in the oven!

Hi Sarah and Tim…not to be a a pain but it is plain or self rasing flour? Making this for breakfast right now. I’ll just use sr and see how it goes. Thanks guys!
Sarah
Kira-lee HarveyHi! Wish I could’ve helped you right when you were making it! I just use all-purpose flour, not self-rising, although I think both would work just fine!
Petra
Kira-lee HarveyHi, I live in the Netherlands and never ever heard of it 😉 But, will definitely try this recipe. Will use almond flour though since I am doing the keto thing. Xx from the Netherlands.

At home in the UK we have this recipe (minus the butter) to make toad in the hole ( I know this is very different to what you have as toad in the hole) but we would put sausages in the pan pour in this mix put it in the oven to do it’s thing and then serve with gravy / veg and mash 😂 ….. think I might give the breakfast version a go though looks fab!!

Can this just be mixed by hand like pancake batter so we don’t have to dirty the blender?
