We are all still reeling from our amazing road trip to Zion, Utah. 5 families, totaling over 25 people, road tripped from Oregon and Washington down to southern Utah in December to visit Zion National Park. It was quite the trip! 14 hours each way and I have to say the boys did better than I could have expected. I pulled out all the stops with games, activities, snacks, dvds, and even a prize bin. I also used special little snack bags I made to hand out at different times. For instance, when we hit 200 miles or 500 miles; I also used the prize bin in the same way! This was a fun extra for them. I was as prepared as I thought I could be.
Road Trip
If you are heading on a road trip with kids, these items below were a hit in our car. Click any link to shop the item.
Haldheld kids Gaming device (we have UNO, a Retro Game Console, and BrainBolt)
Headphones (we have this 5 pack, or these)
We passed right through Twin Falls, Idaho and I have to mention our dinner spot. It was recommended by a local friend so if you are ever in the area- check out 2nd South Market. It’s a food hall with about 8 vendors and there was even live music while we were there. Great spot for a large family, but of course it would be awesome for a date night too.
The last thing about this road trip to Zion is the scenery. We were all so happily surprised at how much we enjoyed driving through the whole states of Idaho and Utah and seeing their amazing mountains and scenery. Highly recommend.
Accomodations
We stayed at Zion Red Rock Oasis. Let me just say- it was the most amazing experience. This luxury 14,000 sq. ft. property includes a swimming pool with slide, hot tub, children’s playground area, sauna, theater, and indoor soccer field. If you watched my stories, you know the indoor soccer field and theatre were the hits of the weekend for both kids and adults. It sleeps 55+ so it would be great for a group of 5-6 families or even a family reunion. There is so much to do and we were there in winter so there would be even more fun to be had if you went in the summer.
Activities
There are a couple activities we all would highly recommend.
1. Make sure you actually GO INTO Zion National Park. Our rental property was right at the edge, so it was less than a 10 minute drive to the park entrance. You need to buy a pass to get in the park. You can buy a 7 day pass for $35, and that’s the most affordable option for 1 vehicle. We did the Emerald Pools hike which was beautiful and there are so many more!
2. Utah Offroad Tours– this was a highlight for ALL OF US. If you are heading to Southern Utah, make sure you call Bill and book a tour. We booked the 3 hour “sand hollow” tour and you pay by the car, either a 4 seater or 2 seater. Bill leads the pack and provides the best experience for the day. There were even snacks provided, which you know bumped my star rating all the way to 5/5.
Utah- thank you! You were beautiful and we hope to visit again sometime in the summer. Another road trip to Zion maybe? I hope you enjoy our tips, and let me know if you ever check out any of these recommendations!
xo, Sarah
