Baby shower season comes in waves, which means finding baby shower games that aren’t overused is hard to do. We’re sharing our list of Modern Baby Shower Games that are actually fun. No more changing a diaper blindfolded, or not saying “baby”; your guests will actually have fun playing these Modern Baby shower games.
Let’s get to the list!
Guess the Gender game
Gender neutral names are a big thing right now, and you’d be shocked at how hard it is to determine if they are more frequently used for a boy or a girl. Use this website to create this modern baby shower game. Type in a gender-neutral name, “Merritt” for example, and the site will pull data on whether or not the name was given to a boy or a girl more frequently, by year. You can create the game based on the year prior, or any year back to 1950. Either way; it’s a Modern Baby Shower game that is actually fun.
Think Fast
I played this at my niece’s shower and loved it. It’s a race to name the “top three” baby related diaper brands, nursery rhymes, baby washes, etc. Here’s what we used:
Guess the Family members
Print baby pictures of the Mom-to-be’s family (husband, parents, or even shower guests), then hang them on the wall and have guests figure out who is who. It’s a great conversation starter, and is actually fun! If collecting baby pictures of the family is daunting, you can find celebrity baby pictures online.
Baby Fishbowl
A hilariously simple twist on Taboo and Charades. Pass out a few post-it note size papers to each guest. Have them write a baby related word or phrase on each paper, for example: “Pampers diapers”, or “nursing bra”. Place papers in a bowl, split into two teams, alternating teams each turn. Round one is like “taboo”, describe the phrase on the paper without saying any word in it until your team guesses it exactly, then draw another paper from the fishbowl. Each person’s turn is 60 seconds. Continue until you’ve gone through all papers and then move to round two. Place the papers back in the fishbowl but this time it’s “charades”, acting out the phrase. Round three you can only say one word to describe what is on the paper. You’ll be laughing the whole time!
What will baby look like?
Daddy’s big nose or Mama’s blue eyes? This is based on Mom-to-be’s prediction of what her baby will look like; try and get your answers as close to Mom’s predictions.
Nursery Rhyme Emoji Game
Convert titles of popular nursery rhymes into emojis and have your guests race to figure them out. There are plenty of templates online. (try here and here)
Letters of Encouragement
For the sentimental type; hand out blank note cards to your guests and have them write a note of encouragement. Then put the cards in a nice binder and send them home with the new mama. This is sure to lift her spirits when she is knee deep in dirty diapers, and exhausted from late night nursing sessions.
Lastly, I want to share 3 more game ideas for a bit more competitive crowd. If you have more space to play these, it can be a really fun addition to your party!
Rush to the Bathroom
Split into two teams, pass out a coin to each participant. Put a bucket 10 feet away, place the coin between your legs, waddle and drop the coin in the can. The team to get 10 coins in first, wins!
Stack the Sippy Cups
Individual or in teams, give participants plenty of plastic sippy cups, set the timer for 60 seconds, and the tallest tower still standing wins.
Sort the Sweets
In pairs, or individual, pass out 50 different colored candies. Set the timer, and have them sort by color with their non-dominant hand.
That’s all folks. I hope this gives some great ideas for your next baby shower. Remember, you can use a lot of these for any type of party, just swap out “baby verbiage” and you’ve got a family night game too. We play the Fishbowl game all the time on friends and family nights with a lot of adults. We hope you can use this list of Baby Shower Games. Thanks for reading, and as always, let me know your favorites!
