I’m excited about this post, because it comes from all of YOUR ideas. I was recently sharing about how Tim and I have started doing a lunch date every week to get out and connect with each other. So many of you wanted more ideas, so we crowd-sourced!
Dating your spouse is so important no matter how long you’ve been married. With that, I am very aware how hard it can be with everything else going on in life. But my hope is that this list will give you fresh ideas of how you can make it work in your relationship.
It doesn’t have to be expensive or extravagant to be meaningful. It can be in the home or out of the home. The main thing is being intentional and making it happen.
Check out all the ideas, and if there’s something you want to add, leave it in the comments below for everyone else to learn from!
Dating Your Spouse: At home
Most of these would happen after your kids go to bed. Or if you have little ones, it could be during nap time. Another idea is to trade childcare with another family of similar size to save cost. Every week, one family watches the other family’s kids while they do a date night. And the next week you swap. Now onto the list.
- Romantic music, rose petals, and massages (try this oil before the massage, it’s great!)
- Cook together- try a new recipe together
- Sit outside by the firepit and make s’mores
- Puzzle and dessert
- Game night – add popcorn and snacks
- Movie at home
- Set a nerf gun outside the door with a note to find me somewhere in the house
- Make a new dessert together
- Surprise date night- have the kids all ready with a babysitter when your spouse comes home from work
- Homemade candle lit dinner and a couples bible study
- Coffee date at home on Saturday morning before the kids get up (this may be best for teens who sleep in)
- Go on a walk before the kids get up (teen kids who can be home alone)
- Charcuterie board date
- Escape the Crate boxes- escape room game in a box
- Friday night dance party after the kids are in bed
- Old school Nintendo Game night
- Walk the neighborhood
- Bonfire and projector Movie
- Do a project together if it’s something you love (woodworking, diy, etc)
- Fresh baked cookies and binge watch a show
- Couples Q&A- Print your own or get this one.
- Put a movie on for the kids and go out on your patio for a date night
- Think about what you loved to do when you dated and do that
- Hot tub
- Alphabet dating- start at the beginning on the alphabet and take turns planning dates beginning with that letter.
- Bubble bath together
- Journal where you write notes back and forth to each other
- Fondue night (bonus if clothes come off)
- Gordon Ramsay Master Class
- Buy a LEGO set and assemble it together
- Date Box Club
- Geocaching
- Buy groupons for activities around town
- Go to the store and spend $20 on each other
- Hold his tools while he’s working outside
- A Happily Co date box subscription
I think it would be so fun to print this out and cut each date idea separately. Put them all in a jar (maybe one jar for at home, and one for going out), and pick one out each week.
Dating Your Spouse: Going Out
There’s just something about getting out of the house that can be so refreshing, am I right? These ideas below range from $ to $$$ and everything in-between. There is something for everyone which I love.
- Dollar Store date- get cheap materials for a paint night
- Go on a drive and listen to music
- Costco date
- Let’s Roam app for scavenger hunt
- Coffee Shop
- Pick a game from home and take it to a coffee shop to play
- $5 Fun Date- you each have $5 to spend on each other at the Dollar Tree
- Escape rooms
- Paint night
- Ax throwing
- Food trucks
- Distillery tour with a picnic afterwards

- Sunset hike

- Frisbee golf
- Go karts
- Skeet shooting
- Try hitting a happy hour- more affordable and you can try fun things
- Pickle Ball
- Restaurant hop for each course
- Sporting event (could even be a local high school game)
- Functional dates- do something you need to do but do it together and get a treat
- Ski date

Cara

From the at home category we love to play “old school” video games. We used to do it all the time…Mario kart on the GameCube. It can get intense 😂 from the going out list we used to drive around and listen to music in the 2 seat convertible we have but with kids that’s not as easy anymore. I really want to check out a new local putt putt place for our next date. I don’t know how to describe it except for intense putt putt lol. It’s called puttshack i believe, in Atlanta.

Escape room! My husband is an over the road truck driver and he is gone for 4-6 weeks at a time. Right now things are particularly rough for us with diesel fuel prices as high as they are. He owns his truck and spends thousands a week on fuel so he can help keep us all stocked the best he can. With fuel rising, he has to stay gone longer in order to make up for the extra he’s spending on it. So as you can imagine, our time AND our money are extra precious to us when we get it! We would love to do an Escape Room! We both love puzzles and trying to figure out clues so I think it would just be the PERFECT date!

Love, love, love all the ideas! There are too many I want to try. We’ve been married almost 7 years, and I feel like we’ve “gone on a date” maybe twice. 😕 During marriage counseling he even told us to make sure we dated (oops!). I LOLed at the Costco date though because if that counts, we’ve done that ALOT! 😅 There is one way too close to us! Definitely going to make these more intentional. Thank you so much for putting this together. ❤️
Karey Eastburn
Shooting range! We shoot on our property and that’s super fun but going out to dinner and then to a shooting range just sounds extra fun. 🙂

My husband is leaving for a military training in June, he will miss Father’s Day yet again this year. He was gone for the military last year too. So I plan to surprise him with a Father’s Day celebration before he leaves. We are going to have a surprise date night which is much needed bc we just had a baby a few weeks ago! I think we will go downtown and go to his favorite breweries and they just opened up an ax throwing place in our town not that long ago. We haven’t had a date night in so long and there was no way I was throwing axes 8-9 months pregnant. I think it will be a fun night out and I LOVE all of these suggested for other date night ideas!
Aliceson Lueckemeyer

We have only been away 1 other time in 12 years from our kiddos and that was for a weekend work event. That weekend meant a lot to us and want to try getting away a few times a year. Oohh a restaurant hop for each course would be fun!! And as for staying in- I’d pick up a charcuterie board from the local honey place right up the street from us and do a dinner out on the patio. I’m doing a lot of these with my kids!! I love spending time with them.
Becky Concilio
All of these are great! I love the dollar tree idea and spending $5 on each other, but we have never been Ax throwing so I think that could be our next date night (which we probably haven’t had one in a few years…we always with the 2 kids or with family. Haven’t done just the two of us in forever!)

The Let’s Roam app sounds like so much fun. The shooting range has been on our to do list for far too long. So either of those would be my picks for an upcoming date. We have started to rotate planning a date once a month. Sickness sometimes throws wrenches in. But its been good to get out more often. It had been over a year before 2022. Our 9th anniversary is in a couple of weeks – i’ll need to show the hubs this list and see if he prefers one over the rest. Appreciate the ideas!

Love this, Sarah!! I think I t’s all about the commitment & intention. We had some errands we had to do that couldn’t be postponed on the Thursday we committed to our date so we got dressed (nothing fancy, but we put in the effort to look nice beyond normal errands-wear lol). We made all our stops & we picked up ice cream & sat in the town square at the fire pit, surrounded by spring flowers just planted for the season & twinkle lights on lamp posts. No one else was there. It was perfect! 🍦🔥
