Easter weekend is a great time to bring together family and make memories together! I’ve always tried to be creative with Easter fun-because I know that repeated activities become traditions that kids remember with great fondness!
We wholeheartedly embrace and celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ this weekend around our home-it’s the foundation and basis for our entire belief in a risen Savior who gives each one who asks eternal life!
But we completely throw ourselves into some of the best celebrations ever with egg hunts and fun that will be remembered for years to come!
Our traditions began years ago with fast-paced egg hunts and always a piñata. Many years the piñata was an Easter Egg because part of the fun was making it with paper mache and that was the only shape I felt I could accomplish!!! From there, as the kids got older they wanted to do an ADULT HUNT, complete with signs to help us find the eggs!!!!
Here’s a few fun ideas for Egg hunts for the kids:
- Stuff plastic eggs with individually wrapped candies or coupons or coins or dollar bills. Have a GOLDEN, or in our case, an ORANGE egg that is bigger than all other ones and holds the grand prize! Each mom also contributes eggs & treats.
- Each child has their own color they are looking for! This helps when you have a wide range of ages so the little ones get some eggs too! We do about 50 eggs per kid and this works great.
- Fill most of the eggs with candy, then fill the rest with slips of paper w/ numbers on them. Each number coordinates with a prize tray-when a kid picks that number, they then get to choose a prize from that tray. Kids love this! This is a good way to give out fun items that don’t typically fit in a plastic egg.
NOTE: If you’re stuck on Easter egg fillers- here’s some ideas:
- Gum
- Individually wrapped candy
- Stamps
- Tokens to local arcade
- Money: bills or coins
- Egg Shaped Chalk
- Bath bombs-especially w/ surprise inside
- Army men
- Hot wheel cars
- Parachute men
- Erasers
- Washi tape
- Hand sanitizer holders
- Hair clips
- Hair ties
- Small toothpaste
- Fruit snacks
- Fun, colorful band-aids
- Stickers
- Small playdough tubs
- Finger puppets
- Bouncy balls
- Lip balm
- Balloons
- Sticker earrings
- Mini nail polish
- Sticky Hands
Egg Hunt Ideas for Adults:
- Puzzling Egg Hunt
- Work in couples. This can be spouses or you can mix it up & create your own pairs.
- Each couple gets their own color egg to hunt for
- Get puzzles that are about 12-15 pieces. 1 piece per egg and tell how many eggs they are hunting for.
- Hide all the eggs, then everyone hunts at the same time.
- As soon as each couple finds all their eggs, they run back to a table and put their puzzle together.
- First couple to do all that WINS!
- ‘Don’t take my color’ egg hunt
- Work in couples.
- Each couple has 1 color egg they are hunting for and can’t touch any other eggs.
- To make this a step more exciting you can number the eggs and each couple has to find them in number order.
- Eggs hold money and candy and gift cards and treats.
Egg Hunts for Adults & Kids together-pair 1 adult and 1 child together
- 3-legged Egg Hunt
- Wrap one leg from each partner together with one leg from other partner and hunt eggs as a 3-legged team.
- ‘Tag, you’re it’
- The adult searches and finds an egg, runs back and tags their child teammate who then runs and finds an egg.
- Continue until set amount of eggs are found.
Easter fun and games for everyone together
- BALLOON TOSS
- Keep balloons up in the air, adding a new one every 10 seconds
- EGG TOSS
- With a partner-step back with every toss
- Last one to break the egg wins
- PHOTO FUN
- Use fun Easter themed props to take pictures
- SWEET AS CAN BE
- Have 3-4 Jelly Belly bean recipes (see example list below). Give each team a recipe card that has just the names of the flavors for each recipe they have to make. Pour lots of Jelly Belly’s down the middle of the table (including needed flavors for recipes and more flavors). When you say go, teams must put together the correct Jelly Belly bean combinations on their recipe cards. Tasting is allowed. First team to make all the recipes correctly wins!
Examples of recipes:
- Berry Smoothie
- (3 of the 4) – Strawberry daiquiri, Raspberry, Blueberry, Blackberry
- Banana Split
- Banana, chocolate pudding, crushed pineapple, strawberry jam, Very cherry, French vanilla
- Brown Cow
- A&W root beer, French Vanilla

Thank you for sharing all these great ideas! I am always looking for non candy ideas because we don’t really do too much candy. This year I am putting Cheetos in eggs ;). But I really like the jelly belly idea (big popcorn fan ) and doing recipes- so cool. Curious how you purchase? Do you buy a mix bag (pic recipes after) or shop and fill your own with recipe cards in tow?
Nana
JamieOh, I sure hope you can try the Jelly Belly recipes! They are so much fun! I bought the big jar at Costco but also had to buy small amounts at Winco or wherever you can find Jelly Belly’s a reasonable price just to make sure you have all the needed flavors for the recipes! I only gave each team maybe 3 recipes to make and they were all different! Hope that helps you, Jamie!

Now that sounds like a FUN Easter! Full of games, easter egg hunts, and so much more. I like your suggestions of what to put in the eggs! When we got into HS and college (the grandkids), the adults would hide a dozen or so eggs in my grandpa’s barn/shop. Talk about a hard hunt, but so fun!
